How to record a good quality guitar audio/video

Do you want to record homemade guitar videos with good quality audio/video?
To accomplish this, you will need a mic (a USB mic would be ideal for many purposes as it will directly plug in to your computer and be powered by your computer as well (in most cases)), as well as an audio editing program for PC or simply Windows Movie Maker (which I am not familiar with but I am sure accepts audio as well as video files and allows you to edit them together).
If you really want a mixer (like an analog mixer or something with built-in amps) you would most likely want a what is called a 'dynamic' microphone (different from a 'condenser' microphone which is for studio recording). Dynamic mics are used a lot in live sound but also can be used with a mixer (the mixer will power the mic) or with an audio interface (something that will connect to your computer via USB or FireWire / iLink and has mic inputs on it).
If you are not satisfied with a USB-powered mic, then you would indeed need an audio interface to connect the mic to, then you would connect the interface to the computer.
There are lots of brands out there. What are your goals with the video and audio recordings?
If they are for fun, go with a USB mic. If you are a budding audio engineer or recording enthusiast then you might want something like a cardioid condenser mic and an audio interface and recording software + Movie Maker.
Beside, there is a easy way to have great sound & video for a youtube video. First off, you must record the video & audio separately. Remember the key here is sound great ! 2nd is good video. 1st recording sound: I have an older ZOOM PS-04 palm studio digital 4 track recorder. about the size of an old style sony walkman. I found it on ebay with the power adaptor, memory card, usb card reader & manual almost like new shipped to me for $100. many companys make even easier to use ones out now, tascam, fostex & so on. I can record multiple tracks. say a backing track, drum, bass, multiple guitars, keys, vocals whatever I can create. These recorders have a 1/4 jack input for an intstrument, a small software program allows you to mix the tracks adj. levels, pan, effects & convert the mix to a wav file on your PC. ( Theres the audio ) I take the file & use a free program EXPstudio to add EQ, compression & other effects to fatten up the final audio abit. 2nd now the is video. Use a good quality web cam like the new Microsoft life cam cinema HD ( buy.com $59 free shipping ) records in 720P HD. Many out here are fine ( get one with a big CCD or reader ) works better for a low lit room. Now the performance. Start the cam & make all the adjustments needed for a nice picture in the web cam software. Click the video start, first then start the audio recorder, perform your solo. When done. Use Windows Movie Maker ( PC ) Mac has a similar program. add the video file, add the audio file, credits & titles if you like. Have the audio all for the audio track, no audio is used from the cam. sync the 2 tracks too start at the same time & save it in the highest quality as a wmp file. Upload to youtube ! ( trial & error & time fooling with this will be woth it !) wahla! you have a nice video & Studio Sound !
